Radiofrequency Therapy for Vaginal Health

Overview

Radiofrequency therapyis a gentle, non-invasive, non-ablative laser treatment designed to enhance vaginal health and pelvic floor support. Radiofrequency therapy offers the following benefits:

  • Patient friendly and non-invasive
  • Quick and simple
  • Highly efficient and safe, yielding outstanding results with minimal side effects.
  • No anaesthesia required
  • Minimal discomfort or downtime, allowing a quick return to daily activities

Radiofrequency therapy is commonly used to manage:

  • Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) occurs in mild to moderate cases and involves stress related leakage.
  • Vaginal atrophy presents with dryness, irritation, and painful intercourse.
  • Vaginal relaxation syndrome refers to vaginal laxity following childbirth or ageing. Genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) includes urgency, discomfort, and urinary symptoms

The therapy is performed in-office using a hand-held device that delivers controlled radiofrequency energy to the vaginal tissues. This heat stimulates collagen remodelling, enhances blood flow, and promotes tissue hydration and elasticity. The treatment is non-ablative, does not require anaesthesia, and is generally well tolerated.

Each session typically lasts 20–30 minutes, depending on the area treated and the patients’ specific needs. Multiple sessions may be recommended for optimal results

Patients are advised to:

  • Schedule the session outside of menstruation.
  • Avoid vaginal creams, lubricants, or medications for at least 24 hours prior.
  • Undergo a gynaecological examination to rule out active infections or contraindications.

Radiofrequency therapy is considered safe, but minor side effects may occur, such as:

  • Mild redness or swelling at the treatment site
  • Temporary warmth or tingling sensation
  • Light spotting in rare cases
  • Very low risk of burns or scarring when performed by trained professionals

Recovery is quick, and most women resume normal activities immediately. General advice includes:

  • Avoid sexual intercourse, tampon use, and strenuous exercise for 48 hours.
  • Keep the area clean and dry.
  • Follow up with the treating specialist for progress monitoring and repeat sessions if needed.
