Dr. Rajesh Sawant is the Head of Transfusion Medicine at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, with extensive expertise in transfusion services, quality systems, and accreditation. He holds an MD in Pathology and secured first rank in Mumbai University in the MD Pathology final examinations.
A recognized leader in quality and standards, Dr. Sawant is a Principal Assessor for NABH and a Technical Assessor for NABL and CAP, supporting robust governance and best practices in laboratory and transfusion medicine. He has received the Fellowship of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) twice (2005 and 2008), reflecting his strong academic and professional standing in the field.
His contributions have been acknowledged through several prestigious awards, including the Young Scientist Award by the Indian Society of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion (2008), the H. D. Shourie Award (2012) for significant contribution to Transfusion Medicine, the APHIA Bursary Award for the International Summer School in Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (2015), and the J. R. Jolly Award for outstanding contribution to teaching and training in Transfusion Medicine. He currently serves as the Secretary of the Federation of Bombay Blood Banks.
