Dr Prabodh Karnik is a Consultant Otolaryngologist (ENT and Head & Neck Surgeon) at the ENT department of Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.
Post the completion of his MBBS and DORL, Dr Karnik pursued MS in ENT followed by Diplomate of the National Board (DNBE). His undergraduate and post-graduate training in ENT have been from the Seth G.S. Medical College (University of Mumbai) and KEM Hospital and he has had a stellar career with several academic laurels. He has visited several centres in the USA and Germany for further training in Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Ear Surgery. In 1996, he was a Xomed scholar at the workshop at Savannah Georgia.
Dr Karnik has a rich experience spanning more than 31 years and he has been a pioneer in Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS) in the country. His patients have benefited from this surgery since 1987. His first workshop on FESS at Hyderabad in 1989 was attended by 200 delegates.
Dr Karnik is a consultant at several prestigious hospitals in Mumbai. In addition, he is consultant to the Atomic Energy, Western Railway, Mumbai Port Trust, Air India and several other leading Public Sector Undertakings. In the past, he has been Honorary Treasurer and Honorary Secretary of the Association of Otolaryngologists of India and is the Past President of the Indian Society of Otology. He is a member of Rhinology Society of India, The Association of Medical Consultants, Indian Medical Association, etc.
Being a pioneer in nasal and sinus endoscopy and ear surgery in India, he has conducted several workshops and courses and delivered lectures by invitation – both nationally and internationally. He has also been invited to several institutions across the country to perform, demonstrate and teach reconstructive ear surgery.
Besides being an undergraduate and postgraduate examiner in the subject of Otolaryngology at several universities in the country, Dr Karnik is a recognized teacher for the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi and the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Mumbai.
Dr Karnik has several research papers to his credit.
