Precision Oncology

Overview

What is Precision Oncology?

Precision medicine is the next generation of healthcare research. The goal of precision medicine is simply to deliver the right cancer treatment to the right patient at the right dose and the right time by analysing an individual's genetic profile. The genetic profile works as a guide for decisions about the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital, leads the way in precision medicine, which has the potential to transform the way healthcare is delivered.

“Each cancer patient deserves Right Testing & Right Treatment at The Right Time!”

“Each cancer patient deserves Personalized Cancer Treatment that is specific to their cancer!

The Tower

To begin with, a detailed medical history will be collected by the Precision Team; this includes a consultation with Dr. Sewanti Limaye for an in-depth understanding of your case. All available investigations will be thoroughly reviewed, including any previously available genomic data, histopathology, scans, and any other investigations.

The Tower

After the detailed history is collected by the precision team, your consultations will be arranged with Dr. Sewanti Limaye. This is to thoroughly understand your case and ensure an expert evaluation.

The results of your genomic tests will be evaluated and analysed. In some cases, comprehensive genomic testing of the tumour tissue, blood, or saliva  may be recommended to identify biomarkers; this will greatly help to develop more effective treatment strategies and improve patient outcomes.

Furthermore, the precision team will conduct a detailed genomic analysis with hands-on data curation. This includes the examination of key genomic characteristics, such as DNA sequence alterations, structural variations in chromatin, differential gene expression, and the genomic annotation of regulatory and functional elements. This process is very useful for tumour mutation analysis, i.e., the identification of specific tumour mutations, enabling the development of personalised treatment plans for the patient.

A Molecular Tumour Board meeting is then arranged to discuss the case. A Molecular Tumour Board comprises a specialised team of medical experts, including Medical Oncologists, Pathologists, and Molecular Oncologists, who meet to review clinical, pathological, and molecular data of a case. Their aim is to identify novel therapeutic strategies and recommend personalised treatment plans.

While standard-of-care guidelines are tailored to the specific cancer type and may include treatments such as surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, either alone or in combination, understanding the unique biology of each tumour is crucial for effective cancer care. Personalised trea tment recommendations will be developed based on both the tumour type and standard guidelines, following an in-depth case review that incorporates a Personalised Precision Approach and biomarker-specific insights.
