Dr. Shobna Bhatia is a Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.

After completing her MD, Dr. Shobna Bhatia perused and successfully completed her DNB training in Gastroenterology at KEM, Mumbai University, 1990. She underwent an advanced fellowship training in Oesophageal Motility and pH at Philadelphia under one of the earliest innovators in motility, Dr. Donald O Castell. Later, she established motility services at KEM for patients with swallowing disorders and ano-rectal diseases. She has vast experience in management of functional gastrointestinal diseases, solid-state manometry with impedance, pHmetry and breath-testing.

Dr. Shobna Bhatia was the recipient of Unichem Lectureship in Gastroenterology and Indian Society of Gastroenterology Olympus Mitra Award for Endoscopy. She has also been honoured with the NBE excellence award by the Honourable Vice President of India, Shri Venkahiah Naidu. She has been practicing guidelines of World Gastroenterology Organisation for Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. She was a member of the Asian Barrett’s Consortium for Barrett’s Esophagus and Asian Pacific Consensus Meetings on the management of Gastro-esophageal reflux disease, 2016 and for the Chicago Classification of Esophageal Motility Disorders, v3.0, BOB-CAT consortium for Barrett’s esophagus and International GERD Consensus Working Group.

Currently, a Professor of Gastroenterology at Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Dr. Bhatia has authored many important papers and book chapters on esophageal motility, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, esophageal diseases and dyspepsia. As the coordinator of Indian Society of Gastroenterology Task Force on Gastro-esophageal Reflux Disease, she oversaw data collation and publication on GERD epidemiology from more than 20 centres across the country and was also associated with the publishing of guidelines for GERD, 2018. She is the Chairperson for the Task Force on Dyspepsia and a core group member for the Task Force on Irritable Bowel Syndrome. As Editor Emeritus she still continues to serve on the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Gastroenterology. She is also an editorial board member and reviewer in many international journals in Gastroenterology. As a subject expert, she has been involved as faculty in numerous workshops on Scientific Communication and Research Methodology over the years
