Dr Biswa Ranjan Patra is a consultant gastroenterologist and advanced endoscopist at the Institute of Gastrosciences, Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai.
He has done MD Medicine from the reputed PGIMER & Dr RML Hospital, New Delhi and DM Gastroenterology from the prestigious Seth GS Medical College & KEM Hospital, Mumbai. Following that, he received advanced training in third-space endoscopy and minimally invasive endoscopic resection from Japan. Subsequently, he had worked at KEM Hospital as Assistant Professor for 4 years and was heading the endoscopy division. He started and developed the entire third space endoscopy program at KEM Hospital, making it one of the highest-volume centers in India. He also started an early esophageal and gastric cancer screening program for high-risk patients.
He has rich experience in performing endoscopic resection for early tumors (EMR, ESD, STER, EFTR) and various 3rd space endoscopic procedures (POEM-E/G/D/C/Z). He is highly proficient in therapeutic EUS procedures (EUS-GJ, BD, CG, GV coiling) and has described multiple newer EUS-guided liver biopsy techniques. He had extensively worked on various refractory gastrointestinal fistulas and had innovated multiple newer closure techniques, which were published and were awarded in different forums. He has been actively involved in training other gastroenterologist in advanced procedures at various centres across India. He has been an avid researcher and clinician-scientist, with multiple national and international publications. Apart he believes in compassionate care and promotes wellness.
