Dr. Sharan Malipatil: A Leading Expert in Gastroenterology and Interventional Therapeutic Endoscopy.

Following a distinguished tenure as Head of Department, where he significantly reshaped Interventional Endoscopy at Jagjivan Ram Hospital, Mumbai, a referral center for GI care in the region Dr. Sharan Malipatil joined at the Institute of Gastroenterology as a Consultant at Sir H.N. Reliance Health Foundation.

Education and Advanced Training:

Dr. Malipatil brings nearly a decade of rich experience in Gastroenterology and Therapeutic Interventional Endoscopy. He earned his MBBS from Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College in Karnataka, followed by a DNB in Internal Medicine from Trivandrum, Kerala. His pursuit of super-specialization led him to Kilpauk Government Medical College, Chennai, where he completed his DM in Medical Gastroenterology. Further honing his expertise, Dr. Malipatil completed a Clinical Fellowship in Therapeutic Interventional Endoscopy at the world-renowned St. Michael's Hospital, University of Toronto, Canada. He also undertook advanced training in Third Space Endoscopy at the National Hospital Organization (NHO), Kure Medical Centre (KMC), Chugoku Cancer Centre (CCC) in Japan and received specialized interventional EUS training in Mumbai.

Clinical Expertise and Procedures:

Dr. Malipatil possesses a special interest and high proficiency in performing advanced endoscopic interventions. His extensive experience includes a wide array of procedures:

• Quality image enhanced(Narrow Band Image)and Artificial intelligence enhanced Upper GI Endoscopy,sigmoidoscopy,ileocolonoscopy for diagnosis of early cancer and polyp detection.
• Complex ERCP/EUS procedures for conditions such as cholangiocarcinoma, gallbladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, post-liver transplant duct strictures, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, and the removal of common bile duct and pancreatic duct stones.
• EUS-guided interventions, including gallbladder and biliary drainage, drainage of pancreatic fluid collections (pseudocyst, WON), gastrojejunostomy (GJ), and radiofrequency ablation for pancreatic and liver cancers.
• Third-space interventions like Endoscopic Mucosal Dissection (ESD), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), and Endoscopic Full-Thickness Resection (EFTR) for early gastrointestinal and neuroendocrine tumors.
• Palliative care procedures such as esophageal, duodenal, and colonic stent placements for GI cancers.
• Variceal band ligations (EVL), capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy/ERCP, and PEG-tube placement.
• APC (Argon Plasma Coagulation) for conditions including GAVE, portal hypertensive gastropathy, and radiation proctitis.
• OTSC for GI fistula closures.
• Sclerotherapy for hemorrhoids and esophageal varices.
• Interventions for active GI bleeding, including APC, hemoclips, hemospray, and EUS-guided coil and glue injection.
