Cardiac Surgery

Dr Sandeep Honnekeri is a Consultant Cardio-Vascular and Thoracic Surgeon at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre.

After completing MBBS and MS (General Surgery), Dr. Honnekeri pursued his MCh (CVTS) which was followed by DNB in Cardiac Surgery. He has also acquired training as a Registrar at the University Hospital – Cliniques Universitaires, Saint Luc (U.C.L.), Brussels, Belgium; Alfred Hospital, Melbourne and Monash Medical Centre, Melbourne, Australia.

Dr Honnekeri has a rich experience of several years as a Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon. Currently, besides his association with our hospital, he is in private practice in Mumbai for over 20 years and has performed more than 4500 surgeries during this period. He has demonstrated beating heart bypass surgery using arterial grafts with LIMA – RIMA – Y in Wroclaw, Poland in 2000 and in Nagoya, Japan in 2004. He has also been in teaching positions at KEM and Cooper hospitals in Mumbai.

His technical expertise lies in Minimal Invasive Coronary Bypass surgery using LIMA – RIMA – Y grafts through a minimal invasive technique which requires a small incision - resulting in a bloodless surgery with quick post-op recovery and early discharge. His other areas of interest are redo – coronary surgery, mitral valve repair and reconstruction, aortic root surgeries and aortic valve repair, aortic dissection and Cardiac transplantation. He has performed the first awake by-pass surgery in western India in 2005 and has performed a few awake mitral valve replacements as well.

He has submitted several dissertations and presentations in reputed medical journal publications and has been invited as a guest speaker at the World Cardiac Congress.
